MACRA calls on Malawi's private couriers to registerThe Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has called on 12 of Malawi's 18 private couriers to register with it and have a license to operate within the country. MACRA acting director general James Chimera revealed during the commemoration of this year's World Postal Day that only six companies are licenced with the body. “We have talked to other remaining companies to come and become licensed,” he said, “There is still room for improvement and we are currently working into having the rest licensed.” Currently it is only DHL, TNT, EMS, and FedEx that are among the six that are licensed. A TNT official, Goldem Banda pleaded with government to discipline the sector by licensing all that are plying their trade on the market so that there can be a new express delivery. “We request the regulatory authority to bring all other unlicensed courier operators to the regulatory framework to ensure that only those licensed are in the business,” he said.
