Minimum requirements- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- At least 10 years’ experience in the industry, with a proven track record of strategic fundraising and fundraising processes, relationship management, individual giving, reporting, and compliance with the legislation applicable to fundraising.
- At least 5 years’ managerial experience, with demonstrated success in leading and managing teams.
Description of the role
The Fundraising and Sponsorship Manager is responsible for securing income for community chest of the Western Cape by developing and executing strategies to raise funds through donor management, with a focus on trusts and estates, corporate socio-economic development, individual giving, and sourcing new donors and sponsorship opportunities. The role includes launching the centenary legacy fund, managing key donor relationships, and overseeing fundraising programmes such as Give-As-You-Earn and various sponsorship initiatives.
Key performance areas
- Donor management: Sourcing new donors and sponsorship opportunities locally and internationally.
- Lead the launching of the Centenary Legacy Fund.
- Identify, research and secure funding from trusts, foundations and estates.
- Manage and grow the give-as-you-earn programme/stream.
- Manage and maintain existing contracts and donor relationships.
- Research the income generation trends in the NPO sector locally and internationally.
- Establish and maintain a database of current and potential income opportunities.
- Build and maintain relationships with embassies, consulates and their supporting aid agencies.
- Compile executive reports for board meetings.
- Establish and convene internal committees to oversee the above.
- Manage this division’s team.
- Prepare and manage the departmental budget.
Competencies/Skills- Experience in a leadership or senior fundraising role (minimum 6 years).
- Proven fundraising prospecting, proposal writing and donor management.
- Confidence in sales and fundraising discussions and presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent proposal and report writing skills.
- Excellent administration and organisational skills.
- Experience of legacy giving and major gift solicitation.
- Familiarity with compliance and legal requirements for trusts and estates.
- Experience in working with high-net worth individuals and estate administrators.
- Preferably a thorough understanding of B-BBEE codes of practice regarding SED, skills development and ESD.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong initiative, with the ability to work both independently and in a team.
- Knowledge of SARS legislation regarding NPO and PBO entities.
- Competent in Microsoft office 365 and CRM systems.
