The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing financial reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and overseeing financial operations within the asset management environment. They will play a critical role in maintaining financial integrity, analysing financial data, and providing strategic insights to support business decision-making.

Key responsibilities:
Financial reporting and compliance
  • Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and relevant financial regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain financial records and ensure compliance with tax and audit requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
Accounting and reconciliations
  • Oversee the general ledger and ensure proper reconciliation of accounts.
  • Perform and review balance sheet and income statement reconciliations.
  • Ensure the integrity of financial data and reporting systems
Budgeting and forecasting
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor financial performance, providing variance analysis and insights.
  • Support strategic planning through financial modelling and projections.
Asset management and financial control
  • Oversee the accounting of investment portfolios, ensuring accurate valuation and reporting of assets under management.
  • Ensure compliance with asset management regulations and internal controls.
  • Assist in monitoring cash flow, investments, and financial risks.
Tax and regulatory compliance
  • Prepare and submit tax returns (VAT, PAYE, income tax) in compliance with SARS regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with FSCA and other financial industry regulations.
  • Stay up to date with changes in tax legislation and financial reporting standards.
Team leadership and process improvement
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accountants and finance staff.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls.
  • Support automation and system enhancements to improve efficiency.
Key Requirements:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Registered CA(SA) / CIMA / ACCA / SAIPA is advantageous

Experience:
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within financial services or asset management.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS, financial regulations, and investment accounting.
  • Experience with financial audits and tax compliance in a regulated environment.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Pastel, Sage, Xero, or other accounting platforms).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modelling.
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws, compliance, and asset valuation.
