Bata Founder's Day: Celebrating employees for driving positive change
130 years ago in 1894, the visionary Bata siblings, Tomáš, Anna, and Anthony, founded Bata with a pioneering spirit, innovative approach, and commitment to philanthropy. Today, Bata Founder’s Day encourages employees to remember that through it all, they remain united by a common desire to make a difference and contribute to a brighter future.
Founder's Day is not just a day of celebration; it is a chance for Bata employees to roll up their sleeves and actively engage in volunteer activities through the Bata Children's Programme (BCP), which addresses crucial social needs.
Founder's Day unites all Bata offices, factories, and stores worldwide, fostering a sense of unity and purpose through multiple events focused on the BCP, providing opportunities for volunteering and making a positive impact in local communities.
From upgrading classroom infrastructure to promoting digital skills, renovating school facilities, fostering sports activities, and improving sanitation, Bata employees dedicate their time and skills to impact their local communities.
Since its inception in 2010, the Bata Children's Programme (BCP) has unified diverse community initiatives under one impactful umbrella, driven by the belief that every child deserves the chance to unlock their full potential and build a future filled with possibilities.
Over the past decade, BCP has expanded its reach to 23 countries, supporting over 400,000 children through programmes focused on education, health and wellbeing, mentorship, and environmental sustainability, all aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2023 alone, BCP volunteers dedicated over 50,000 hours to various causes.
Lorraine Dyer, Bata South Africa's country manager, says: "Founder's Day is a special occasion for us to reflect on our journey, celebrate our values, and give back to the communities that have supported us throughout the years. As we honour our legacy, we reaffirm our dedication to giving back to our local communities.”
Dyer, who transitioned from the luxury industry to take up the helm at Bata SA, said: “I was seeking a sense of purpose in my work. Bata South Africa's CSR initiatives, focused on uplifting children, resonated deeply with me. We take pride in providing shoes to countless young individuals across South Africa and our BCP volunteers donate countless hours of their time to community initiatives, a testament to our commitment to making a meaningful difference. Every morning, I am reminded that our efforts are truly worthwhile.”
The Founder’s Day celebrations will also include honouring Bata’s most loyal employees with Long Service Awards and acknowledging the exceptional contributions of Bata’s most active BCP volunteers.
