Durban’s No 1 station produces two fresh radio talents

East Coast Radio introduces two talented young stars to its weekend line up. Jennifer Mayisela and Thandy Kunene were chosen as graduates of the station’s trainee programme and add a special brand of girl power to KwaZulu-Natal’s top commercial radio station.

Golden voiced Jennifer Mayisela was thrilled to be selected as Trevor Williams’ co-host on the Late Night Vibe, after the station’s intensive 12-week DJ trainee programme. “I have always had a passion for radio and I’ve found that same passion at my new home on East Coast,” says the former law student. “I absolutely love being on air, it’s like an addiction.”

Thandy Kunene majored in radio journalism at Rhodes, but a short while later was lured into the corporate world. “While I enjoyed the challenge, I felt something was missing,” she admits. After being accepted into the East Coast programme, she found “the drive, the passion, the thing that makes me tick”. She will be co-hosting the weekend breakfast show with Peter G.

“East Coast Radio has always believed in promoting young talent,” comments Managing Director, Trish Taylor. “Our trainee programme is an initiative that finds the most promising new voices out there and nurtures them to match the energy and direction of our brand.”
