University of Pretoria Campus Tours (UP Campus Tours) team at Enterprises UP
The UP Campus Tours situated on the Hatfield Campus of the University of Pretoria (UP) is a student-managed business venture that is overseen by the Heritage and Cultural Tourism honours programme students at the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies, University of Pretoria. The students offer fun and educational tours on campus to foreign dignitaries, prospective students, new university staff, international visitors and the public. This has become a very special project for the Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP).
Due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the performance of daily tasks has been affected and has encouraged a new approach of doing things. The UP Campus Tour developed an even more exciting way of sharing the history and bright future of the University of Pretoria with visitors. The team now offers tailored virtual tours – University of Pretoria Virtual Campus Tours – Interactive (UPVCT – Interactive). The tours use an online platform to take guests on an interactive tour of the university campus grounds from the safety of their homes. These tours are personalised and tailored to interests and requirements, and guests can interact with the guide and ask questions.
Mr Deon Herbst, CEO of Enterprises UP, expressed how privileged he was to work with young and vibrant people. He said: “Whatever we invest in young professionals we believe we will get back. Universities and the government have invested a lot in graduates in this country and it is time that graduates stand up and also make a difference in society, within their work environment and community.”
“The project is very demanding on the students’ time as some are enrolled for their honours and master’s, while conducting campus tours. We are very delighted to have them as part of our team” said Prof. Karen Harris, who initiated UP Campus Tours.
Early in the year, the team was presented with a new branded uniform courtesy of Enterprises UP. Each team member received a new t-shirt with their name specially embroidered.
