The Programme in Blasting Engineering has been running for eight years and it has been well received by the industry. The objective of the programme is to develop the delegate’s abilities in the six cognitive levels namely, knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
The programme covered the basics of commercial explosives and the advanced application in both underground and surface mining environments. During the programme, delegates were introduced to the impact of fragmentation on the mining cycle, specialised blasting practices and the effect of blasting on the environment in more detail. The course further covered the assessment of drilling and blasting practices, downstream effects of blasting outcomes, safety in blasting and legislation.
The celebration was directed by the course leader, Wolter de Graaf from the Department of Mining Engineering, University of Pretoria (UP). Mr de Graaf acknowledged the delegates for their hard work and dedication. He also presented the delegates with certificates including the 2021 top performer.
“This programme was really interesting and I am very pleased with the outcome of the course. My highlight was when we did the practical training, especially the VR training that was mind blowing. To this, I would like to implement VR training because I provide a lot of training to employees where I work. I am going to take the knowledge I gained from here and share it with my fellow colleagues” expressed Dewald Jordaan, the Programme in Blasting Engineering 2021 top performer.
