The incumbent will report to the corporate IT manager.

Job purpose:

The systems administrator is a member of the IT department primarily responsible for on-site IT infrastructure used for on-air broadcast and corporate systems. This role ensures that IT hardware and software are maintained and functional twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Key responsibilities:

• Maintenance and administration of IT broadcasting systems (AVID) at Newzroom Afrika.
• Installation, configuration, support, and maintenance of servers, PCs, laptops, and mobile devices.
• Active Directory administration, including creating, updating, and managing user network profiles and devices.
• Support and maintenance of Google Workspace.
• Desktop support for PC and Mac operating systems, including setup, networking, printers, and software installations.
• Security patch management, such as installing antivirus software and OS updates.
• Firewall management.
• PABX and VoIP phone management.
• Maintaining company backups.
• Networking administration and management.
• Completing handover reports at the end of shifts.
• Logging calls and making enquiries with suppliers when required.

Skills and competencies:

• A qualification in computer studies: MCSE, computer science diploma in networking and cybersecurity, or CCNA.
• At least five years of experience administering Microsoft systems.
• Knowledge of networking technologies and infrastructure, such as TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS.
• Knowledge of Microsoft products, including operating systems and tools like WSUS, Active Directory, and SQL.
• Familiarity with Linux, OSX, and VMware.
• Knowledge of Cisco switches.
• Experience in broadcasting is beneficial.
• Friendly, dedicated, and a team player.
• Detail-oriented.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Approachable and able to collaborate effectively with others.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Capable of logging and escalating calls to vendors when necessary and following up on logged calls.
• Ability to investigate and recommend enhancements to optimise service delivery.
• Commitment to confidentiality regarding processed and stored information.
• Mandatory own transport.
