Project finance officer

(24-month fixed term contract position, with the potential for renewal. The position is based in Century City, Cape Town, at ICLEI Africa Office)

ICLEI Africa is expanding its team and is seeking a dynamic, passionate individual who excels in project financial planning and reporting.

This position is suitable for someone with experience in project reporting functions, preferably within the non-profit organisation sector, with excellent skills in Excel.

It is preferred that the officer be based in Cape Town, at ICLEI Africa's head office, where they will be managed.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the finances of small to large-scale projects, including all financial reporting as required by various donors and clients
  • Set up and manage regular finance meetings with respective project managers
  • Follow all financial procedures as per ICLEI Africa policies and audit requirements
  • Follow financial procedures as per individual project contractual requirements
  • Attend to all project invoicing as instructed by the project managers
  • Support project managers and teams with business development, project forecasts, and budgeting for project proposals
  • Support project managers and teams with annual costings, cashflow projections, and expenditure forecasts
This position is ideal for someone passionate about financial management, with keen attention to detail, and looking for an environment offering flexible working hours. However, all project reporting processes, requirements, and deadlines must be met at all times.

  • Be aware this is a full-time position, with a preference for candidates based in Cape Town
  • Have a fully internet-connected, functional, dedicated workspace at home, as some remote work may be required (a company laptop will be provided)

Competencies:
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work accurately and manage time well under pressure, even on several diverse projects at once
  • Strong numeric and project finance management skills
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles
  • Independent and task-oriented worker
  • Ability to learn quickly and be flexible in serving several different project managers, donors, and clients, particularly when tight deadlines coincide
  • Strong Excel skills (skills will be tested during or after the interview)
Requirements:
  • Tertiary-level accounting, finance, or mathematics qualification (B Com degree or equivalent)
  • Minimum of three years of proven relevant experience in a comparable role with similar responsibilities
  • Minimum of two years of experience with international grants and/or donor funding is advantageous
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
  • Preferably living in Cape Town or willing to relocate before the contract start date, with a willingness to work mainly from the ICLEI Africa office, with limited work-from-home options
  • Able to start within one month of accepting any employment offer
