Habitat XR is a multi-award-winning Johannesburg-based immersive experiences company with an important cause: to reconnect people to nature using immersive technology. We work with non-profit conservation organisations, governments and private industry, creating immersive films that inspire empathy and behaviour change. We have produced work from the savannah of the Kruger to the jungles of Rwanda; the springs of Yellowstone to the peaks of the Himalayas filming snow leopards. We also build temporary and permanent immersive installations to bring our content work to life. We've produced work in 19 countries over 10 years. 

Our growing team is hiring what we call a "Cinematic VR Artisan", a live-action VR generalist to be involved with various aspects of producing multi-camera 360 content and experiences. No prior experience in VR or 360 video is required (as you will be trained), however note this is a HIGHLY technical form of editing. Experience in Final Cut and/or Premiere Pro and/or Davinci Resolve is required, but the rest will be taught.

We also produce - and will continue produce significantly more - original immersive experiences, which are self-commissioned experiences addressing topics that our own team chooses. This, while technical in implementation, is highly creative - and we always want our team to lean in with story ideas. 

Requirements:
If you are not a highly meticulous, well-organised and technical editor, this position is for you.

We are looking for someone with a solid foundation in editing and storytelling, someone who understands the production supply chain well, is deeply interested to learn new skills in a new and incredibly powerful format and create very meaningful impact in the work they produce. This person should be a brilliant problem solver. Habitat XR is a long-standing pioneer in the immersive space, but trail blazing means there are often lots of technical problems to solve by Googling and YouTubing. If you're an intellectual and derive joy in solving these types of problems, read on.

We are also looking for someone with a heart for nature. There are long, challenging and rewarding days ahead - if you can't draw inspiration from wanting to help save nature, this job probably isn't for you either.

Role:

- 65% of your time will be stitching footage in Mistika VR or similar, monoscopic & stereoscopic (training will be provided as we know this is not common). This is a VERY time-consuming and meticulous process that can yield incredible results when people experience your work in a VR headset.

- 20% of your time will be offline and online editing using stitched footage in Adobe Premiere Pro and/or Apple Final Cut Pro

15% of your time will cover:
- Being involved in the creative process around ideation for different jobs
- Working with audio on a timeline including basic sound design
- Creating content for social media and occasional traditional video edits as required
- Helping organise, manage and build our wildlife stock VR library, "Noah's Arkive"
- Ingest & data managing incoming footage from wildlife shoots
- Learning new skills, techniques, developments and processes in the industry.
- Telling us how to improve our processes
- Taking full ownership and accountability of deadlines by creating production schedules

Hardware
Our post-production team exclusively uses Apple Silicone-based hardware. 

Nice-to-haves:
You do not need prior experience in  VR/360 VIDEO, however experience is beneficial to applicants. Training and time to learn is part of the opportunity offered. FCPX & Premiere Pro proficiency is essential, experience with any of these other areas is advantageous:

- Colour grading- Audio mixing & foley- VFX, particularly rotoscoping and rotopainting- Motion graphics (2D & 3D)- Graphic design
